Chateau Angludet

Château Angludet is a cru bourgeois supérieur estate in the Margaux commune owned by the Sichel family since 1961 — the same family holding a major stake in Château Palmer, one of Margaux's greatest properties. The estate covers approximately 32 hectares on Margaux's gravel and sand soils, planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon (approximately 55%), Merlot (35%), and Petit Verdot. Despite the Margaux appellation and its direct connection to Palmer, Angludet was excluded from the 1855 classification, making it technically a non-classified Margaux that sells at a fraction of classified-growth prices. This disconnect between quality and price is one of Bordeaux's most persistent anomalies, and one that benefits secondary-market buyers. At auction, 113 lots average just $46 per bottle — remarkable value for a Margaux property farmed by the Palmer family with comparable agricultural rigor. Top vintages 2009, 2010, 2015, and 2016 trade at $50–$80 per bottle, earning 90–92 points from Wine Advocate. The Sichel family applies the same farming discipline to Angludet as to Palmer, making this estate one of Bordeaux's clearest quality-to-price opportunities for buyers who recognize the terroir and do not require a classified-growth label. The Sichel family's long stewardship since 1961 has given Angludet one of Margaux's most consistent ownership histories, avoiding the investment-fund disruptions and ownership changes that have affected other historically underperforming classified estates.

Château Angludet is owned by the Sichel family, who also own a major stake in Château Palmer — one of Margaux's greatest third growths — applying comparable farming discipline to both estates despite their different classification status.
Angludet was excluded from the 1855 Médoc classification despite farming comparable Margaux gravel and sand soils, creating a persistent quality-to-price anomaly that benefits secondary-market buyers seeking appellation character at non-classified prices.
The 2010 Château Angludet earned 92 points from Wine Advocate and trades at $60–$80 per bottle — among the strongest Margaux value propositions at secondary market for a vintage of this quality across the appellation.
At $46 average per bottle across 113 lots, Angludet is one of the most affordable legitimate Margaux producers in this database, with prices 70–80% below classified-growth peers from the same commune and vintage.

In the Glass

Classic Margaux character: fresh blackcurrant, violet, cedar, and pencil shavings on the nose, with a fine-grained, silky Cabernet Sauvignon structure that is the hallmark of the commune's deep gravel soils. Merlot contributes flesh and mid-palate roundness; Petit Verdot adds structure and color in ripe years. Medium-full bodied with good acidity and elegant rather than powerful tannins. The wines are approachable at 5–8 years and develop cedar and tobacco complexity with further aging.
