Clos Mogador
Clos Mogador is the flagship estate of René Barbier Sr. and the de facto birthplace of modern Priorat. In 1989, Barbier orchestrated the legendary 'Clos' project, recruiting four other winemakers (Daphne Glorian, Alvaro Palacios, José Luis Pérez, and Carles Pastrana) to simultaneously vinify wines from the same parcels of old-vine Garnacha and Cariñena in the Gratallops village area of what would soon become DOQ Priorat. Clos Mogador was Barbier's personal release from this project and established the template for premium Priorat. The estate is now farmed biodynamically. At auction, the Clos Mogador Gratallops (the primary wine) averages $125 per bottle across 126 lots, with Espectacle (from a separate parcel) and Manyetes Vi de Vila completing the portfolio. Auction prices range from $37 to $1,195 — the upper end reflecting magnums, older vintages, or the iconic early releases from 1989–1995. Barbier's role in the Priorat revival earns the domaine historical significance that supports pricing.

In the Glass
Clos Mogador is built on old-vine Garnacha and Cariñena from llicorella schist soils: intense blackberry, dried fig, mineral iron, licorice, and dark chocolate. The wines are dense and structured with grippy tannins and a powerful, long finish. Biodynamic farming adds a distinct aromatic freshness. These are wines built for 15–25 years of aging.
