Comando G

Comando G is a small Madrid-based natural wine project founded by Fernando García (of Marañones) and Marc Isart, focusing on old-vine Garnacha grown on granitic soils in the Sierra de Gredos mountain range west of Madrid. The estate is at the forefront of a generation of winemakers who have revived interest in Gredos Garnacha, producing wines of striking transparency and terroir expression from vines planted at 700–900 meters elevation. La Breña—the sole wine in the auction record with 171 lots averaging $90—is sourced from a single vineyard of 50–70 year old Garnacha bush vines in Las Rozas de Puerto Real. The wine is produced with minimal intervention: native yeast fermentation, no fining or filtration, and aging in used French oak. The 2021 vintage is the most traded, and the remarkably tight price range ($70–$139) reflects consistent quality and pricing discipline across releases. Production is very limited, typically under 2,000 cases, and mailing-list allocation drives secondary market demand. Comando G represents the definitive expression of the Gredos Garnacha revival and has been embraced by the natural wine collector community internationally.

La Breña is sourced from Garnacha vines averaging 50–70 years of age at 700–900 meter elevation in the Sierra de Gredos—among Spain's most extreme terroir conditions for red wine.
The wine's tight $70–$139 price range across 171 lots reflects consistent pricing discipline and quality, with the 2021 vintage the most actively traded.
Comando G co-founder Fernando García was central to the modern Gredos Garnacha revival that has transformed the D.O. Vinos de Madrid into an internationally recognized fine wine region.
Production of under 2,000 cases annually means allocation is exclusively through mailing list or direct channels, creating sustained secondary market demand.

In the Glass

Comando G's La Breña is one of Spain's most transparent red wines—ethereal, high-toned, and Burgundy-like in its delicacy despite coming from Garnacha. Fresh red cherry, wild strawberry, granite minerality, and floral violet notes define the nose; the palate is light-to-medium bodied with feather-fine tannins and lifted, herb-tinged freshness. The high altitude and old vines suppress the alcohol and avoid the jamminess of lower-elevation Spanish Garnacha.
