Feudi San Gregorio

Feudi San Gregorio is the leading Campanian producer, based in Sorbo Serpico in the Irpinia hills east of Naples, founded in 1986 by the Capaldo family. The estate has played a central role in the revival of Campania's indigenous varieties — particularly Aglianico (for Taurasi), Fiano di Avellino, and Greco di Tufo — transforming them from local curiosities into internationally recognised wines. The flagship red wines are Serpico (100% Aglianico) and Patrimo (100% Merlot), with Taurasi and Taurasi Riserva completing the top tier. Across 422 auction lots, the estate averages $66 per bottle, with prices reaching $406. Serpico in benchmark vintages including 2006, 2010, and 2015 has earned scores of 94–96 from Wine Advocate. Patrimo, a Merlot of Pomerol-like density from the volcanic Irpinia soils, has attracted significant collector interest as one of Italy's most unusual and compelling Merlot expressions. The estate also produces excellent Fiano di Avellino and Greco di Tufo.

Feudi San Gregorio is widely credited with the modern revival of Campanian winemaking, transforming indigenous varieties Aglianico, Fiano, and Greco from regional wines into internationally traded collectors' items.
Patrimo, a 100% Merlot from Irpinia's volcanic soils, is one of Italy's most unusual Merlot expressions; Wine Advocate awarded it 95 points and it regularly trades at $100–150 per bottle.
Serpico, the estate's flagship Aglianico, is produced from a single vineyard and aged in French barriques; the 2006 vintage earned 96 points from Wine Advocate.
422 auction lots average $66 per bottle — modest pricing that reflects the Campania appellation's lower prestige premium relative to Tuscany or Piedmont, despite comparable quality from top cuvées.

In the Glass

Feudi San Gregorio reds are built on Aglianico's formidable structure: dark cherry, iron, leather, Mediterranean herbs, and volcanic mineral earth with firm, grippy tannins and high acidity. Serpico amplifies these qualities; Patrimo shifts toward Merlot plumpness — dark plum, mocha, and cedar — with volcanic mineral undertones. The whites are equally compelling: Fiano di Avellino offers stone fruit, almond, and waxy minerality; Greco di Tufo is citrusy, mineral, and refreshingly acidic.
