Galardi
Galardi is a small Campanian estate producing a single wine—Terra di Lavoro—from ancient Aglianico and Piedirosso vines in the volcanic soils of the Rocca Monfina extinct volcano in northwestern Campania. The estate is a partnership among four members of the aristocratic Catello family, with winemaking guidance from Ricardo Cotarella since the first vintage in 1994. Terra di Lavoro rapidly became a reference wine for the 'super-southern Italian' category, receiving high scores from Robert Parker and helping establish Campanian Aglianico on the international stage. The wine is a blend of roughly 80% Aglianico and 20% Piedirosso, aged in French barriques. Auction activity is entirely concentrated on Terra di Lavoro: 196 lots at $65 average, with the 2010 vintage most-traded. The price ceiling of $197 at auction reflects the wine's regional niche—highly regarded by specialists but not yet commanding the premiums of the Barolo or Brunello elite. Production is small, under 10,000 bottles per vintage, which sustains collector interest without broad market liquidity. The 2001 and 2007 vintages are considered the estate's most iconic releases.

In the Glass
Terra di Lavoro is deeply colored and structured: dark cherry, blackberry, volcanic ash, iron, tar, and dried herbs on a massive tannic frame. Aglianico contributes its characteristic ferrous grip and acidic backbone; Piedirosso softens and adds floral top notes. The wine requires at least 8–10 years to reveal its full complexity and can age for 25 years.
