Henschke
Henschke is one of Australia's most historic and celebrated wine estates, a fifth-generation family business in the Eden Valley whose Hill of Grace Shiraz is considered one of the Southern Hemisphere's greatest wines. The Henschke family has farmed in the Barossa and Eden Valley since 1862, and the modern estate is run by Stephen Henschke and his viticulturist wife Prue, who has devoted her career to understanding and preserving the ancient vine heritage. Hill of Grace is produced from ungrafted Shiraz vines planted between 1860 and 1910, making them among the oldest continuously producing Shiraz vines in the world. The wine is made only in great years and in tiny quantities, with the old vines producing extraordinarily concentrated and complex fruit. The Mount Edelstone single-vineyard Shiraz, also from ancient Eden Valley vines, is another benchmark. Beyond Shiraz, Henschke produces exceptional Riesling from Eden Valley and the Julius and Louis Semillon from the Barossa. At auction, Hill of Grace is the most valuable Australian wine after Grange, with older vintages from the 1970s and 1980s particularly prized for their rarity and the extraordinary quality of old ungrafted vines.

In the Glass
Henschke Hill of Grace is profoundly complex: black and blue fruits, dark chocolate, cedar, spice, and earth, with the extraordinary mineral depth and structural elegance that only very old vines can deliver. Less about power than Grange, more about precision and purity of terroir expression.
