Jasmin

Domaine Jasmin is a small domaine in Ampuis at the heart of Cote-Rotie, with roots stretching back to the early 20th century. Robert Jasmin, who died in 1999, was widely considered one of Cote-Rotie's great traditional practitioners — a view reinforced by Parker's legendary scores for older vintages, particularly in the 1978-1988 period. His son Patrick continues the domaine with the same philosophy: whole-bunch fermentation, minimal intervention, and long barrel aging. At auction, 144 lots have traded at a remarkable average of $146 per bottle — among the highest averages for any small Rhone domaine — ranging from $46 to $831. The Giroflarie cuvee, named after the giroflier (clove tree) historically associated with the parcels, averages $150 across 68 lots and is the domaine's principal bottling. Olea, a smaller-production second wine, averages $74 across 8 lots. The $831 ceiling reflects older vintages of Robert Jasmin's Cote-Rotie from the 1980s, where Parker awarded scores of 97-100 to exceptional years. Even recent Patrick Jasmin vintages regularly score 93-96, sustaining collector demand.

Robert Jasmin's 1978-1988 Cote-Rotie vintages received Parker scores of 97-100, establishing the domaine as one of Cote-Rotie's benchmarks alongside Guigal's La-La wines.
144 lots average $146 per bottle at auction — exceptionally high for a small Rhone domaine — with a ceiling of $831 driven by library vintages from the Robert Jasmin era.
Giroflarie, the domaine's main cuvee (68 lots, avg $150), is named for the clove-scented parcels on the Cote Blonde side of the appellation and is aged in a mix of old and new barrels.
Patrick Jasmin continues his father's traditional approach — whole-bunch fermentation, no filtration, minimal new oak — and receives consistent 93-96-point reviews from Wine Advocate.

In the Glass

Cote-Rotie Syrah with the hallmarks of the Cote Blonde and Brune: violet, black olive, bacon fat, crushed rock, and ripe blackberry, with Viognier co-fermentation adding white flower lift in select parcels. Traditional winemaking results in wines of notable structure and longevity — chewy in youth, developing tertiary leather and iron over 10-20 years. The style is more austere than Guigal's single-vineyard bottlings.
