Tirecul Graviere
Tirecul La Graviere is a tiny Monbazillac estate near Bergerac, managed by Bruno and Claudie Bilancini, who produce what many consider France's finest sweet wine outside Sauternes. The domaine farms approximately 7 hectares of ancient Semillon and Muscadelle vines, with the Muscadelle component unusually high at around 30-40%. The flagship Cuvee Madame, produced only in exceptional botrytis years from the oldest vines, has received scores of 98-100 from Parker. At auction, 136 lots have traded at an average of $164, ranging from $14 to $578. Madame Blanc (Cuvee Madame) averages $202 across 51 lots; the domaine Monbazillac averages $49 across 17 lots. Parker famously scored the 1997 Cuvee Madame 100 points — one of the only near-perfect scores given to any Bergerac wine — which dramatically elevated the estate's international profile.

In the Glass
Monbazillac botrytized sweet wine with extraordinary concentration: apricot, peach marmalade, saffron, lychee (from Muscadelle), beeswax, and candied ginger — more exotic and floral than Sauternes due to the high Muscadelle content. Balancing acidity is remarkable for the region. Cuvee Madame adds layers of oxidative complexity and extraordinary length. Ages for 30-50 years in great botrytis vintages.
