About Dom Perignon

Dom Pérignon is the prestige vintage Champagne of Moët & Chandon, now part of LVMH, named after the Benedictine monk of Hautvillers who improved Champagne quality but did not invent sparkling wine. Champagne Mercier gave the unused brand name to Moët in 1927 as part of a family wedding. The first vintage, 1921, went on sale in 1936, shipped to New York. Until the 1943 vintage it was aged Moët vintage wine rebottled; from 1947 it was made separately. It is always a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Under cellar master Richard Geoffroy (1990–2018), late releases were framed as plénitudes, now labelled P2 and P3.
