About Pol Roger
Pol Roger made his first sale of wine in January 1849, to a merchant in his home village of Aÿ, and moved the house to Épernay in 1851. From early on he concentrated on brut Champagne for the English market. After his death in 1899 his sons Maurice and Georges ran the house and rebuilt it after part of the cellars collapsed in 1900. The house is still owned by his descendants. Winston Churchill favoured it from 1908 and was a friend of Odette Pol-Roger. In 1984 the house introduced its prestige Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, a Pinot Noir-led wine first made from the 1975 vintage.
