Argiano

Argiano is one of Montalcino's oldest and most historically significant estates, with records of winemaking on the property dating to the 16th century, covering approximately 43 hectares under vine on the southern slopes of the Montalcino hill. The estate changed hands multiple times in the modern era — passing through the Cinzano family and then a consortium including Brazilian businessman Andrés Solé — before being acquired by the Brazilian Schwarzman family in 2013. Under each ownership, Argiano has maintained its position as one of the appellation's anchor producers. The Brunello di Montalcino represents the estate's core, a 100% Sangiovese wine from the relatively warm southern sector of the hill that produces fuller, richer Brunello than the cooler northern exposure. The Solengo — a Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah blend introduced in 1995 — was one of the Montalcino area's first Super Tuscan blends and became an immediate collector wine, earning Parker scores in the 94–97 range. Non Confunditur (NC) is a single-vineyard Sangiovese Grosso selection from the estate's oldest parcels. With 590 lots averaging $84 per bottle, Argiano offers accessible entry-level Montalcino pricing while the Solengo and Riserva lots push the ceiling toward $200.

Solengo, introduced in 1995 as one of the first Super Tuscans from Montalcino, blends Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah and earns 94–97 points from Parker — a landmark wine for the appellation's international reputation.
The estate covers 43 hectares on Montalcino's southern slopes, a warmer sector producing fuller, more immediately accessible Brunello than northern-facing sites like Biondi-Santi or Soldera.
Winemaker Carlo Ferrini joined in 1993 and was instrumental in creating Solengo and lifting the estate's critical profile through the late 1990s and 2000s.
590 lots average $84 per bottle — accessible pricing for a historically significant Montalcino estate, with Solengo and Riserva lots pushing toward $150–200 at auction.

In the Glass

Southern Montalcino Sangiovese Grosso in the richer, more fruit-forward style: dark cherry, dried fig, leather, and tobacco with warm-climate plushness and firm but accessible tannins. The Brunello is less austere than northern-sector estates; the Solengo adds Cabernet structure and Merlot roundness for immediate approachability. Riserva shows the deepest concentration and longest aging potential of 20–30 years.
