Argyle

Argyle Winery is one of Oregon's foundational sparkling wine producers, established in 1987 in the Dundee Hills of the Willamette Valley through a partnership between Australian winemaker Rollin Soles and Napa investor Cal Knudsen. The winery pioneered extended-tirage méthode traditionnelle Champagne-style production in Oregon, earning a reputation for wines of genuine complexity and longevity. Its sparkling portfolio—Vintage Brut (averaging $31 across 19 lots with a 1996 vintage apex), Extended Tirage Brut ($84 across 15 lots, most traded in 2011), and Brut Rosé ($55 across 11 lots)—represents some of the most consistent value in domestic sparkling wine auction markets. The still Pinot Noir program is anchored by the Reserve ($58 across 32 lots, 2010 the top vintage) and the iconic Spirithouse Pinot Noir ($50 across 14 lots from the 2000 vintage). Across 178 total lots with an average of $56 and a price ceiling of $185, Argyle's auction profile reflects broad accessibility rather than trophy-level speculation. The 2010 vintage emerges as the estate's strongest overall auction performer. Argyle holds certified sustainable vineyard status across over 200 acres in the Willamette Valley, with particular emphasis on own-rooted vine blocks in the Dundee Hills.

Argyle's Extended Tirage Brut undergoes 4–5 years on lees before disgorgement, producing one of Oregon's most complex domestic sparkling wines at an average of $84 per lot.
The Vintage Brut reaches back to the 1996 vintage at auction—nearly three decades—demonstrating the aging capability of Oregon méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine.
The Spirithouse Pinot Noir, named for a historic structure on the estate, is the most collectable single-vineyard still wine, with the 2000 vintage the most traded.
At an average of $56 across 178 lots with a $185 ceiling, Argyle represents one of the most consistently available and affordable Oregon producers in the auction market.

In the Glass

Argyle's sparkling wines combine bright Willamette Valley acidity with extended lees autolysis character—brioche, toasted hazelnut, and citrus cream—while retaining Pinot Noir and Chardonnay's native freshness. The Extended Tirage adds pronounced creamy texture and complexity. Still Pinot Noir expressions show classic Willamette restraint: red cherry, dried cranberry, forest floor, and silky, fine-grained tannin.
