Bond

Bond Estates was established by Bill Harlan in 1999 as a complement to Harlan Estate, with the explicit goal of producing terroir-driven single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from the finest sites across Napa Valley. The five estate vineyards — Melbury (Oakville), Vecina (Oakville), St Eden (Oakville), Pluribus (St Helena), and Quella (Rutherford) — each produce distinct expressions of Napa Cabernet, with a sixth wine, Matriarch, representing a cross-vineyard blend. Across 1,525 auction lots averaging $416 per bottle, Bond occupies the upper tier of Napa collectibles. Melbury consistently receives the highest scores and commands the strongest prices — regularly above $500 per bottle — while Quella and Vecina trade between $400–$500. Matriarch, as the entry point, averages closer to $300. Production across all labels is tightly controlled at approximately 500–600 cases per vineyard annually, maintaining scarcity. Bond wines are allocation-only through a mailing list, so secondary market supply is the primary access point for collectors. Top auction vintages include 2007, 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2019. All wines are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet-dominant blends, aged 18–20 months in 100% new French oak. Bond provides transparency through detailed vineyard maps and vintage notes released with each allocation.

Bond Melbury has received scores of 97–100 points from multiple critics across consecutive vintages including 2007, 2012, and 2013; it regularly trades above $600 per bottle at auction.
Each of Bond's five estate vineyards produces between 500 and 600 cases annually — a deliberate production ceiling that maintains scarcity and secondary market premiums averaging $416 per bottle.
All Bond wines are produced under direct oversight from Harlan Estate's team and aged in 100% new French oak for 18–20 months, a hallmark of the Napa cult wine production philosophy.
The Matriarch blended wine was introduced to offer a comparative cross-vineyard reference; it typically trades 25–30% below the single-vineyard labels and provides the most accessible entry point to the Bond portfolio at auction.

In the Glass

Bond is pure Napa Cabernet Sauvignon at its most terroir-specific: cassis, black cherry, and graphite across the portfolio, with individual vineyard signatures — Melbury shows floral lift and silky texture; Vecina adds darker fruit and earth; Pluribus (hillside) brings more grip and mineral tension. Full-bodied with 100% new oak integration: vanilla, mocha, and cedar frame the dense mid-palate. All wines require 10–20 years to reach their apogee.
