Brovia

Fratelli Brovia is a small traditional Barolo estate in Castiglione Falletto, one of the Barolo DOCG's most respected communes on the central limestone ridge, farming approximately 15 hectares including the prestigious Villero, Rocche di Castiglione, and Garblèt Sue crus. The estate was founded by brothers Giacinto and Carlo Brovia and is now managed by Elena Brovia and winemaker Alex Sanchez, her partner. Brovia is firmly in the traditionalist camp: long macerations in large Slavonian oak botti and extended aging that demands patience but delivers extraordinary complexity after 12–20 years. Villero — one of Castiglione Falletto's finest single vineyards on calcareous clay soils — and Rocche di Castiglione, from the limestone ridge's most elevated position, are the two flagship Barolos. Parker scores of 94–97 points are typical for the single-vineyard wines in strong vintages; the 2010 Villero and Rocche di Castiglione are among the most sought-after contemporary Barolos from the commune. With 546 lots averaging $115 per bottle, Brovia offers genuine traditional Barolo quality at prices well below the appellation's celebrity estates. The estate's commitment to slow, traditional winemaking without the compromises of the modernist school has attracted a devoted following among collectors who prize structure and longevity over early approachability.

Villero and Rocche di Castiglione are two of Castiglione Falletto's most prestigious single-vineyard Barolo sites; Brovia's meticulous long-maceration vinifications earn 94–97 points in top vintages.
The estate employs large Slavonian oak botti and extended traditional macerations — 30–45 days — producing wines that require 10–15 years minimum but develop extraordinary complexity comparable to Giacomo Conterno.
Elena Brovia and Alex Sanchez operate the estate with the same traditional philosophy established by the founding Brovia brothers, maintaining stylistic consistency across more than 50 harvests.
546 lots average $115 per bottle — outstanding value for traditional Barolo from two of Castiglione Falletto's finest crus, trading at less than half the price of comparable Serralunga or Barolo village estates.

In the Glass

Castiglione Falletto Nebbiolo from limestone and calcareous clay: Brovia Barolo delivers dried cherry, rose hip, iron, liquorice, and tobacco with traditional firm tannins and high acidity demanding patience. Villero is the more structured and powerful; Rocche di Castiglione the more elegant and perfumed; Garblèt Sue the most immediate. All wines share the commune's characteristic mineral precision and reward 15–30 years of cellaring.
