Chateau Beausejour (Duffau-Lagarrosse)

Chateau Béjour Duffau-Lagarrosse — commonly known as Béjour-Duffau to distinguish it from the adjacent Beau-Séjour Bécot — is a Premier Grand Cru Classé B estate in Saint-Émilion whose tiny 7-hectare vineyard sits on the limestone plateau directly adjacent to Ausone, arguably the most coveted terroir position in the appellation. The estate is owned by the Duffau-Lagarrosse family and produces a remarkably small quantity — typically 2,000–3,000 cases annually — from a Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend. The estate's reputation was transformed by a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker for the 1990 vintage, followed by near-perfect scores for the 1998 and 2000 vintages. Across 459 auction lots, the estate averages $282 per bottle, with prices reaching $3,585 for older vintages in large formats. Top vintages since 2000 — including 2012, 2015, 2018, and 2019 — have earned 96–99 points. The combination of tiny production, exceptional terroir adjacency to Ausone, and a trophy collection of perfect Parker scores makes this one of Saint-Émilion's most reliable auction performers.

Robert Parker awarded the 1990 Béjour Duffau-Lagarrosse a perfect 100 points, one of very few Bordeaux wines ever to receive this score and the catalyst for the estate's international reputation.

In the Glass

Béjour Duffau-Lagarrosse is a Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend of extraordinary concentration and finesse: black cherry, plum, violet, cedar, truffle, and iron minerality from the limestone bedrock. The style is more structured than most Saint-Émilion, with firm but ripe tannins and pronounced limestone-driven precision. New oak is well-integrated. Top vintages need 10–15 years to fully express their depth; the greatest bottles evolve for 30–40 years.
