Chateau Hosanna

Chateau Hosanna occupies a privileged 4.5-hectare plot in Pomerol on the plateau adjacent to Petrus and Lafleur, carved out of the former Certan-Giraud estate when Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix acquired it in 1999. The vineyard is planted to roughly 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc on clay-rich soils over a crasse de fer iron-rich subsoil — the same geological formation that gives Petrus its structure. Winemaking under Christian Moueix employs meticulous sorting, fermentation in concrete vats, and 18–20 months aging in French oak barrels, 50% new. The debut 1999 vintage announced the estate as a serious Pomerol contender, and the 2000 established its reputation with scores in the mid-90s from major critics. At auction, 307 lots have traded with an average of $183 per bottle and a ceiling of $738, driven primarily by the 2015 vintage. The 2015 earned Parker scores of 95–97 points, and top-vintage bottles in perfect provenance regularly eclipse $400. Older library vintages — particularly 2000, 2001, and 2005 — command premiums from collectors who tracked Hosanna from its inception. The estate's link to the Moueix stable provides strong auction credibility alongside neighbors Petrus, Trotanoy, and Lafleur, while the micro-production of roughly 15,000 bottles annually keeps supply constrained relative to the sustained demand from Pomerol specialist collectors worldwide.

Chateau Hosanna was created in 1999 when Jean-Pierre Moueix acquired and renamed the 4.5-hectare Certan-Giraud estate, replanting and reconfiguring the vineyard with approximately 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.
The 2015 vintage is the most sought-after at auction, with bottles reaching $738 at the high end; the estate produces roughly 15,000 bottles per year across its single Pomerol cuvee.
Hosanna's crasse de fer iron-rich subsoil is the same geological formation underpinning Petrus and Lafleur, and the estate sits on the grand cru plateau directly adjacent to both properties.
Auction prices range from $33 for lesser vintages and larger-format lots to $738 per bottle for top years in pristine condition, with the portfolio averaging $183 across 307 traded lots.

In the Glass

Hosanna delivers classic clay-plateau Pomerol: dense black cherry and plum fruit with earthy iron and graphite undertones from the crasse de fer subsoil. The Cabernet Franc component adds structural precision — violet florals, dried herbs, and firm but fine-grained tannins. The palate is plush and concentrated with a long, mineral finish. Style sits between the opulence of Petrus and the precision of Lafleur.
