Chateau La Gomerie

Château La Gomerie is a small Saint-Émilion estate owned by the Bécot family of Château Beau-Séjour Bécot, producing a micro-cuvée of 100% Merlot from a 2.5-hectare parcel on the plateau calcaire of Saint-Émilion. The wine was established in the mid-1990s as one of Saint-Émilion's early 'garage wines' — high-extraction, critically targeted Merlot from a tiny plot adjacent to Beau-Séjour Bécot. At auction, the wine averages $93 per bottle with 103 lots and a range up to $219, reflecting the wine's positioning as a serious Saint-Émilion micro-cuvée but at prices well below the most celebrated garagiste productions like Le Pin or Valandraud. The decision to produce a 100% Merlot single-parcel wine was deliberate: the plateau calcaire soils produce rich, concentrated Merlot with plummy depth and limestone-driven structure. Despite the Bécot family's strong reputation through Beau-Séjour Bécot, La Gomerie maintains a separate identity and limited production of around 1,000 cases annually. The wine was produced with input from Stéphane Derenoncourt in certain vintages, contributing to the concentrated style. At $93 average the wine trades at a modest premium over generic Saint-Émilion Grands Crus Classés.

Château La Gomerie is 100% Merlot from a 2.5-hectare parcel on Saint-Émilion's plateau calcaire, a micro-production project of the Bécot family of Château Beau-Séjour Bécot.
La Gomerie was established in the mid-1990s as part of Saint-Émilion's garagiste movement — small-parcel, concentrated Merlot wines targeting critics and collectors willing to pay premiums for micro-scale production.
Annual production is approximately 1,000 cases, sold through Bordeaux négociants en primeur and on the secondary market at prices averaging $93 per bottle across 103 auction lots.
The wine has been produced in collaboration with consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt in certain vintages, whose influence is associated with the rich, concentrated style common to his Saint-Émilion projects.

In the Glass

100% Merlot from Saint-Émilion plateau calcaire: black plum, chocolate, coffee, and crushed stone on a rich, full-bodied frame. The limestone soils temper the opulence with structure and freshness uncommon in clay-dominant Merlot. The style is concentrated and modern without reaching the extreme extraction of the original garagiste pioneers. Tannins are ripe and velvety; acidity is moderate. Best at 5–12 years when the concentrated fruit integrates with its limestone backbone.
