Chateau Lascombes

Chateau Lascombes is a 2ème Cru Classé estate in Margaux, covering 84 hectares — one of the largest classified growths in the appellation. The estate has an uneven historical track record, underperforming for much of the 20th century before a significant turnaround following its acquisition by Colony Capital in 2001, with Michel Rolland retained as consulting winemaker. Major vineyard replanting and cellar investment in the early 2000s produced a marked quality leap, with the 2004 and 2006 vintages emerging as modern benchmarks. The estate was subsequently acquired by MACSF in 2011, with continued improvement under oenologist Jean-Philippe Fort. The flagship Lascombes 2ème Cru averages $101 across 498 auction lots with prices reaching $1,275. The second label Chevalier de Lascombes offers access to the estate's style at a lower price point. Top vintages including 2010, 2015, and 2016 have earned scores in the 92–95 range.

Lascombes covers 84 hectares, making it one of the largest classified growths in Margaux; its size contributes to annual production of roughly 350,000 bottles.
Colony Capital's 2001 acquisition brought Michel Rolland as consulting winemaker and triggered extensive vineyard replanting, leading to a quality transformation evident from the 2004 vintage onwards.
The 2010 vintage earned 95 points from Wine Advocate, representing the peak of the modern era at the estate and regularly fetching $150–200 per bottle at auction.
498 auction lots average $101 per bottle with a ceiling of $1,275, positioning Lascombes as a mid-market classified growth offering relative value compared to other Margaux 2ème Crus.

In the Glass

Lascombes produces Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant Margaux blends with a modern, plush character: blackcurrant, black cherry, vanilla, and cedar with well-integrated oak from a high proportion of new barrels. The style is richer and more extracted than classic Margaux elegance suggests, with broad tannins and generous body. Merlot contributes texture; Petit Verdot adds colour and spice. Approachable at 5–8 years, with top vintages ageing well to 20.
