Chateau Nenin

Château Néhin is a substantial Pomerol estate covering approximately 33 hectares — large by Right Bank standards — owned since 1997 by Jean-Hubert Delon, of the Léoville Las Cases family in Saint-Julien. The Delon acquisition brought significant investment and a philosophical alignment with the precision and structured approach of Las Cases winemaking. Prior to 1997, Néhin was considered an underperforming Pomerol despite its size; the Delon era produced consistent improvement through the 2000s and 2010s. The vineyard is planted predominantly to Merlot (70–75%) with Cabernet Franc, occupying clay-gravel soils east of Pétrus and south of Lafleur — respectable Pomerol terroir without the iron-rich crasse de fer clay bank of the plateau's elite. At auction the estate averages $88 per bottle across 167 lots, with the grand vin (Château Néhin, Pomerol) and second wine Fugue de Néhin both appearing in the record. The 2000 and 2001 vintages under Delon's management were breakout releases, earning scores of 91–94 from major critics. The 2010 and 2015 represent the modern pinnacle. Fugue de Néhin is a genuine value play — authentic Pomerol for under $50 — and contributes significantly to auction volume. The overall price range of $18 to several hundred reflects the split between second wine and grand vin, with top back-vintages driving the upper end.

Jean-Hubert Delon (of Léoville Las Cases) acquired Château Néhin in 1997, transforming it from a consistently underperforming Pomerol into a quality-focused estate with measurable improvement from the 2000 vintage.
At 33 hectares, Néhin is among the larger Pomerol estates — nearly as large as Château de Sales — with clay-gravel soils producing a Merlot-dominant blend of consistent Pomerol typicity.
The second wine, Fugue de Néhin, trades at $20–40 at auction — one of Pomerol's best-value second wines, offering genuine appellation character and benefiting from the same winemaking team.
The 2010 and 2015 vintages are recognized as Delon-era peaks, receiving 93–95 points from critics and achieving the highest prices in the auction record.

In the Glass

Merlot-dominant (70–75%) with Cabernet Franc, typical Pomerol: ripe plum, blackberry, truffle, mocha, and iron. Clay-gravel soils add earthy depth without the opulence of plateau estates. The Delon style brings more structure and precision than pre-1997 vintages. Fugue de Néhin is softer and earlier-drinking; the grand vin requires 8–15 years to show full complexity.
