Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona is a historic Brunello producer based in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the southeastern corner of the Montalcino zone — a position that produces some of the warmest and most immediately accessible Brunellos. The estate's origins trace to the 17th century noble Ciacci family, with winemaking under the current Bianchini family ownership evolving significantly since the 1990s. The flagship Brunello di Montalcino comes from the Pianrosso vineyard, and the Vigna di Pianrosso Riserva Santa Caterina d'Oro is the estate's top bottling — a selection of the finest barrels aged longer in Slavonian oak. Across 499 auction lots, the estate averages $97 with prices reaching $1,046. The 2010, 2012, and 2015 Brunellos have earned scores in the 95–97 range from Wine Advocate and James Suckling. Ciacci's geographic position contributes to a riper, more voluptuous style than producers from the north of Montalcino, making their wines more approachable young while retaining Sangiovese's structural precision. The estate farms approximately 25 hectares of Sangiovese Grosso producing around 100,000 bottles annually.
