Coche-Dury

Domaine Coche-Dury is among the world's most sought-after white wine producers, with holdings of approximately 11 hectares in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, and Corton-Charlemagne. Founded by Jean-François Coche in the 1970s, the domaine has since 2010 been guided by his son Raphaël with the same meticulous standards: severe crop thinning, low yields, old vines, and precise barrel élevage with minimal new oak to preserve terroir expression. The domaine's 1,623 auction lots average $2,338 per bottle — among the highest averages of any white wine producer globally. Corton-Charlemagne, produced from just 0.34 hectares, is the flagship: approximately 1,000 bottles per year with prices regularly exceeding $5,000–$8,000 in premium vintages. Meursault Perrières Premier Cru (0.62 ha) and Meursault village wines — Les Rougeots, Les Chevalieres — also command extraordinary premiums owing to production volumes measured in hundreds of cases. The Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères and the humble Bourgogne Chardonnay each demonstrate Coche-Dury's house style: precision and mineral focus rather than the richness typical of Meursault. Top auction vintages are 1992, 1995, 1996, 2010, 2011, and 2014. The domaine's extreme scarcity — total production under 5,000 cases annually — and cult status among collectors drive auction values far above any comparable Burgundy appellation benchmark.

Coche-Dury's Corton-Charlemagne, from just 0.34 hectares, yields approximately 1,000 bottles per year; at auction it regularly trades above $6,000 per bottle in premium vintages such as 2010 and 2014.
Meursault Perrières Premier Cru (0.62 ha) and several village Meursaults — Les Rougeots, Les Chevalieres — each produce fewer than 1,500 bottles per vintage; the Perrières averages significantly above $3,000 at auction.
The domaine's portfolio average of $2,338 across 1,623 lots places it among the world's most expensive white wine sources — comparable to Domaine Leflaive Montrachet and the rarest Raveneau Chablis.
Raphaël Coche, who formally took over in 2010, has maintained Jean-François's signature use of very little new oak (10–25% depending on appellation), preserving the mineral intensity that defines the house style.

In the Glass

Coche-Dury Chardonnays are defined by precision and mineral tension rather than opulence. Village Meursaults show lemon oil, crushed white stones, and subtle vanilla from restrained oak; Premier Cru Perrières adds flint, oyster shell, and a taut, almost austere spine. Corton-Charlemagne brings all these elements to maximum intensity — chalk, green apple, ginger, and a salty, electric finish that persists for 30 seconds or more. All wines are built for a decade-minimum of cellaring.
