Conterno Fantino
Conterno Fantino is a partnership between the Conterno and Fantino families in Monforte d'Alba, established in 1982 when Claudio Conterno and Guido Fantino began collaborating on wines that blended modern Barolo winemaking techniques with respect for the Langhe's traditional crus. The estate farms important holdings in Monforte's Mosconi and Ginestra crus, alongside Castiglione Falletto's Vigna del Gris. At auction, 138 lots have traded at an average of $98, ranging from $48 to $1,195. Mosconi leads at 57 lots averaging $84; Sori (Ginestra) averages $134 across 50 lots; Vigna del Gris averages $67 across 31 lots. The $1,195 ceiling likely reflects a large-format bottle of Sori Ginestra from a benchmark year — 2010 and 2016 are the most sought Conterno Fantino vintages. Parker awarded the Sori Ginestra scores of 93-98 across multiple vintages in the 1990s and 2000s.

In the Glass
Monforte d'Alba and Castiglione Falletto Barolo: dried cherry, tar, roses, tobacco, and iron mineral from Nebbiolo on Tortonian-era Helvetian soils. Mosconi shows rich, generous dark fruit; Sori Ginestra delivers more aromatic complexity and tannic refinement; Vigna del Gris is more approachable with elegant red fruit and fine tannins. The house style balances traditional Nebbiolo character with modern polish — structured for aging but accessible earlier than full-traditional counterparts.
