Denner
Denner Vineyards is a Paso Robles estate in the Willow Creek District on the western side of the appellation, an area of rolling hills with calcareous clay soils and significant marine influence from the Pacific Ocean through the Templeton Gap. Founded by Ron Denner, the estate produces primarily Rhône varieties (Syrah, Grenache, Roussanne, Viognier) and two flagship red blends: Dirt Worshipper and Ditch Digger. Dirt Worshipper is a Syrah-dominant blend; Ditch Digger incorporates more Grenache and Mourvèdre. The estate is dry-farmed on the chalky, calcareous soils that distinguish western Paso Robles from the hotter, sandier eastern side. At auction, prices average $57 per bottle across 122 lots, with a range from $12 to $185. The two flagship blends command premium pricing above the varietal Syrah. Denner represents serious Paso Robles wine at accessible prices, with the calcareous soil signature adding mineral complexity unusual in California Rhône blends.

In the Glass
Denner's Rhône blends are savory, mineral, and structured: Dirt Worshipper shows smoked meat, cassis, iron, and violet from its Syrah-dominant composition; Ditch Digger is lighter, more aromatic, with red berry, lavender, and herbal notes from Grenache and Mourvèdre. The varietal Syrah is the most concentrated and Northern Rhône-inspired.
