Domaine Coche-Dury

Domaine Coche-Dury is the most coveted source of white Burgundy outside Domaine de la Romanée-Conti's Montrachet, built from modest origins by successive generations in Meursault. Léon Coche established the estate in the 1920s; his son Georges expanded it from 1964; and Jean-François Coche, who married into the Dury family and added their name to the domaine, elevated it to legendary status after taking over in 1973. Jean-François retired in 2010, passing the reins to his son Raphaël, who trained from 1999 onward. The estate covers just nine hectares across six villages, with critical holdings including 0.34 hectares of Corton-Charlemagne acquired in 1986 and a tiny Meursault Perrières parcel of just 0.2 hectares. Annual production barely exceeds 3,500 cases, and allocation is tightly controlled through loyal importer networks. At auction, Coche-Dury Meursault Perrières regularly commands $1,200–$2,500 per bottle and Corton-Charlemagne $1,800–$4,000, prices normally reserved for red Burgundy Grand Crus.

Coche-Dury's 0.34-hectare Corton-Charlemagne parcel, acquired in 1986, produces fewer than 400 cases per year; auction prices of $2,000–$4,000 per bottle place it among the world's five most valuable white wines.
Raphaël Coche took over full winemaking responsibility in 2010 after a decade working alongside his father Jean-François; the transition was seamless and critical scores have remained consistently in the 95–100 range.
In the 2017 Robert Caine collection sale at Zachys, 109 lots of Coche-Dury realised $917,785 — one of the highest totals ever recorded for a single-producer white Burgundy collection at auction.
Total estate production of around 3,500 cases across nine villages makes Coche-Dury one of the smallest yet most sought-after estates in Burgundy; demand exceeds supply by an estimated 20:1 at retail.

In the Glass

Coche-Dury's whites are defined by extraordinary concentration, waxy richness, and a mineral backbone unlike any other Meursault producer — smoke, hazelnut, and white flowers over densely packed stone-fruit. Perrières is the most structured, with a saline, flint-like tension that unfolds over 15–25 years. Corton-Charlemagne adds sheer power and a burnt-almond depth that can approach DRC Montrachet territory in great vintages.
