Domaine du Comte Liger Belair

Domaine du Comte Liger-Bélair was reclaimed by Louis-Michel Liger-Bélair in 2000 after decades of share-cropping arrangements returned the family's historic Vosne-Romanée holdings to direct estate management. The family's vineyards include La Romanée (0.85 ha — a monopole and the smallest Grand Cru in Burgundy), Aux Reignots Premier Cru (the vineyard directly beneath La Romanée), Les Chaumes, Les Suchots, Echezeaux, and village Vosne-Romanée parcels including the monopole La Colombière. Across 1,303 auction lots averaging $2,707 per bottle — among the highest of any Burgundy domaine — the estate commands extraordinary collector attention. La Romanée, produced in only 2,500–3,000 bottles per year, trades above $4,000–$8,000+ for top vintages such as 2010 and 2015. Aux Reignots, with direct upslope continuity from La Romanée, averages above $2,000. Les Suchots and Les Chaumes represent slightly more accessible Premier Cru price points ($800–$1,500). The domaine only fully recaptured direct control of all parcels by 2010; early vintages (2000–2006) trade at premiums among collectors who documented the remarkable initial quality jump. Biodynamic farming, native yeast fermentation, and minimal intervention define the approach. Benchmark vintages: 2005, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015.

La Romanée (0.85 ha), a Liger-Bélair monopole and the smallest Grand Cru appellation in France, produces approximately 2,500–3,000 bottles annually; the 2010 and 2015 vintages have sold above $8,000 per bottle at auction.
Louis-Michel Liger-Bélair reclaimed direct management of all estate vineyards by 2000, ending decades of share-cropping arrangements; the 2001 inaugural vintage already scored 94+ points, establishing immediate critical credibility.
The domaine's portfolio average of $2,707 per bottle across 1,303 lots places it among the ten most expensive Burgundy producers by auction average — comparable to Méo-Camuzet and Rousseau at their top tiers.
Aux Reignots Premier Cru directly abuts La Romanée on its uphill side; Louis-Michel considers it capable of Grand Cru expression, and its auction average of $1,500–$2,500 reflects that perception among collectors.

In the Glass

Liger-Bélair Pinot Noir is Vosne-Romanée at its most aristocratic: red and black cherry, dried rose, iron, and forest floor from the village to La Romanée. Aux Reignots shows the greatest tension — taut, almost austere in youth with extraordinary mineral precision from the thin limestone-clay soils directly beneath La Romanée. La Romanée itself is silkier and broader-textured, combining richness and mineral focus in a way that explains the monopole's singular reputation. All wines require a decade minimum.
