Domaine Huet

Domaine Huet is the reference point for Vouvray and one of the Loire Valley's most revered estates, producing Chenin Blanc of extraordinary depth from three distinct Vouvray vineyards. Gaston Huet — resistance hero, mayor of Vouvray for 47 years, and pioneering winemaker — built the domaine's reputation through the mid-20th century and converted to biodynamics in 1990. Today the estate is managed by Noël Pinguet (Huet's son-in-law) and continues to produce wines of exemplary quality and transparency. The three vineyards — Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont, and Clos du Bourg — each produce sec, demi-sec, and moelleux expressions depending on the vintage, allowing collectors to track both site and ripeness level variation across years. The Pétillant mousseux expressions are also made. Huet's wines are remarkable for their longevity: dry Vouvrays from great vintages can age for 50 years or more, while the moelleux wines from exceptional years like 1947, 1989, and 1990 are considered among the greatest dessert wines ever made. At auction, Huet commands the highest prices of any Loire domaine, with old vintage moelleux and the single-vineyard demi-sec expressions particularly sought after by collectors.
