About Vouvray
Vouvray is a Touraine AOC just east of Tours, created in 1936. It is devoted almost entirely to Chenin blanc, known locally as Pineau de la Loire. With over 2,000 hectares in 2006, it is France's largest source of Chenin-based wine. Its style follows the weather: cool years favour dry and sparkling wines, and warm years allow sweet moelleux and liquoreux wines from noble rot. Chenin's high acidity lets good sweet Vouvray age for decades. Monasteries kept vineyards here in the Middle Ages, and Dutch merchants expanded planting in the 16th and 17th centuries. Domaine Huet is a noted producer.
