Dominio de Pingus is one of Spain's most celebrated cult wineries, created in 1995 by Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck on a tiny plot of ancient Tempranillo vines in Ribera del Duero. Sisseck, trained in Bordeaux, identified a plot of ungrafted centenarian Tempranillo vines and produced a wine of extraordinary concentration and complexity from the very first vintage. Pingus achieved immediate critical acclaim, with Robert Parker awarding multiple perfect scores, and the wine rapidly became one of the world's most coveted. Production is minuscule — typically 500 to 700 cases — ensuring that demand perpetually outstrips supply and that auction prices reflect genuine scarcity. The estate now encompasses 5 hectares of old vines, farmed biodynamically. The second wine Flor de Pingus, made from younger vines, is also produced in small quantities and represents exceptional value. Sisseck's winemaking philosophy emphasises low yields, no fining or filtration, and aging in new French oak, creating wines of tremendous power, depth, and longevity. Vintages such as 1996, 2004, 2009, and 2016 have received perfect scores from multiple critics. At auction, Pingus commands prices among the highest of any Spanish wine and indeed rivals the great Burgundies and Bordeaux in its most celebrated years.
