Eisele Vineyard

Eisele Vineyard is one of Napa Valley's most historically significant sites — a 41-acre property in Calistoga's Volcanic Hill district whose grapes have appeared in legendary wines since the late 1960s when Joseph Heitz sourced fruit there. The Eisele family began estate-bottling in 1991, and the property was acquired by Araujo Estate in 1990 under Bart and Daphne Araujo, who transformed it into one of California's most acclaimed Cabernet producers. François Pinault's Artémis Domaines (owner of Latour) acquired the estate in 2013 and renamed it Eisele Vineyard in 2019. Across 1,427 auction lots averaging $208 per bottle, the Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship and commands $200–$600+ per bottle for top vintages. The Araujo-era wines (1991–2013) are particularly coveted collector targets. Altagracia, a second Cabernet-based wine introduced by Araujo, provides a lower-priced entry point averaging below $150. Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah offer contrasting styles: the Sauvignon Blanc is Napa's finest by most accounts ($150+ per bottle at auction), while the Syrah brings Northern Rhône-inflected density from the volcanic alluvial soils. Key vintages: 1991, 1995, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2013. The site's volcanic cobblestone and alluvial fan soils, combined with the unique Calistoga microclimate, produce Cabernet of exceptional concentration and mineral tension.

The Eisele site's grapes were used by Joseph Heitz to produce the 1974 'Eisele Vineyard' Cabernet — one of the great California Cabernets of the 20th century — a decade before the estate began producing its own label.
Araujo Estate's 1991 inaugural vintage scored 95+ points and initiated a run of consecutive critical successes through 2013; the Araujo-era wines average above $400 per bottle for top vintages at auction.
Artémis Domaines (François Pinault, owner of Château Latour) acquired the estate in 2013 and completed the Eisele Vineyard rebranding in 2019; the affiliation with Latour's winemaking philosophy has raised the estate's international collector profile.
The 41-acre estate on Napa's Volcanic Hill produces approximately 1,500–2,000 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon annually; combined with the Altagracia second wine, total estate production remains under 4,000 cases.

In the Glass

Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is defined by Calistoga's volcanic and cobblestone terroir: black cherry, cassis, pencil cedar, graphite, and a distinctive mineral-savoury quality from volcanic alluvial soils. Full-bodied with excellent tannin structure and higher natural acidity than typical Napa Cabernet. The Altagracia is more approachable earlier but shares the site character. The Syrah shows iron, smoked meat, and violet — genuinely Northern Rhône-like in its density and spice.
