Hospices de Nuits (Jh. Faiveley)
Hospices de Nuits is a charitable institution in Nuits-Saint-Georges founded in 1692, comparable in concept to the more famous Hospices de Beaune. Wines are produced from donated vineyard parcels and auctioned annually to raise funds for the hospice; historically they were vinified and aged by the winning négociant bidder. Jh. Faiveley (the Faiveley family firm in Nuits-Saint-Georges) managed the winemaking for many of the Hospices de Nuits cuvées for decades, which is why the two names often appear together on auction markets. The three most-traded cuvées are Cuvée des Sires de Vergy (123 lots, $60, 2005 peak), Cuvée Jacques Duret (54 lots, $57, 2005 peak), and Cuvée Fagon (16 lots, $109, 2002 peak). The wines are predominantly Pinot Noir from premier cru and village Nuits-Saint-Georges, with quality varying considerably by producer handling. The 2005 vintage dominates the auction database for both main cuvées. The high-water mark of $923 at auction suggests that specific parcels or vintages command significant premiums, likely for magnums or older format bottles.

In the Glass
Nuits-Saint-Georges Pinot Noir in the traditional, earthy Faiveley house style: dark cherry, iron, licorice, tobacco, and structured tannins typical of the appellation's limestone and clay soils. The wines tend toward robustness rather than delicacy; premier cru parcels add more depth and aging potential. Best accessed after 8–12 years from vintage.
