Jacques Selosse

Jacques Selosse is Champagne's most influential iconoclast, having transformed the perception of grower-producer Champagne since Anselme Selosse took over from his father in the 1980s. Based in Avize on the Côte des Blancs, the domaine farms approximately 7 hectares of Chardonnay—and small Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier parcels in Ambonnay and Aÿ—using Burgundian-inspired methods: oxidative barrel aging, solera systems, and zero dosage or minimal addition. The wines command the highest average price of any producer in this batch at $1,928 across 170 lots, with individual lots reaching $16,000 and a minimum of $482 per lot. The Millésimé leads auction volume at 45 lots averaging $2,380, with the 2002 vintage the most traded—a legendary Blanc de Blancs year. Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut averages $1,670 across 17 lots. Version Originale (V.O.) Non-Vintaged averages $1,324 across 13 lots. Individual lieux-dits—Le Bout du Clos, Les Carelles, Le Mesnil Chemin de Chalons—each fetch $2,000–$5,000 per bottle when they appear. Selosse's philosophical influence on the grower Champagne movement has been immeasurable, making the domaine a defining reference point for fine Champagne collecting.

Jacques Selosse averages $1,928 per lot at auction across 170 lots—the highest average of all producers in this cohort—with individual lots reaching $16,000.
The Millésimé 2002 is the most traded vintage, considered a reference for the estate and for Blanc de Blancs Champagne broadly.
Anselme Selosse pioneered the use of oxidative barrel aging, solera systems, and Burgundy-style terroir focus in Champagne, fundamentally shifting the grower movement's philosophy.
The domaine farms just 7 hectares across the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, with production restrictions creating extreme scarcity that underpins the premium auction pricing.

In the Glass

Jacques Selosse Champagnes are among the most distinctive in the region: oxidative and Burgundian in character, with pronounced brioche, hazelnut, dried apricot, and saline mineral notes from the Avize chalk. The Millésimé wines add layers of aged complexity—beeswax, ginger, toasted grain—with very low or zero dosage driving a bone-dry, taut structure. The V.O. solera shows a richer, nuttier, more contemplative profile. All wines reward extended aging.
