About Jacques Selosse

Jacques Selosse is a grower Champagne house in Avize, on the Côte des Blancs. Jacques Selosse and his family founded it in the 1950s and bottled their first vintage in 1960. His son Anselme took over in 1980 after studying at the viticulture school in Beaune. He was among the first to bring white-Burgundy methods to Champagne, fermenting in oak barrels instead of steel tanks. He also farms biodynamically and is seen as a pioneer of the approach in the region. The house uses only its own grapes, from about 37 acres of mostly Chardonnay with some Pinot Noir. Its Substance and Contraste cuvées are blended using a sherry-style solera.
