Ladera
Ladera Vineyards is a Howell Mountain estate on Napa Valley's eastern mountains, producing Cabernet Sauvignon from high-elevation volcanic mountain vineyards. The estate is centered on the historic Summit Lake area of Howell Mountain, which lies above the fog line at approximately 1,900 feet elevation. The estate-grown fruit produces Cabernet Sauvignon with naturally high acidity and firm tannins from the volcanic, iron-rich soils. Ladera produces an Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, a Lone Canyon Cabernet, and a Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, with the Reserve representing the top of the quality hierarchy. At auction, the wines average $50 per bottle across 127 lots, with the range from $21 to $104 placing Ladera firmly in the accessible premium tier. The Howell Mountain AVA designation commands respect among collectors for producing some of Napa Valley's most structured and ageworthy mountain Cabernets, though Ladera's prices remain modest compared to neighbors like Robert Craig, Cade, or the ultra-premium mountain estates.

In the Glass
Ladera's Howell Mountain Cabernets are classic mountain-style wines: concentrated blackcurrant, graphite, dried herbs, and volcanic mineral notes with firm, grippy tannins and high natural acidity. These are not approachable young wines — the mountain fruit and structure demand patience, typically 8–12 years from vintage. The Reserve adds more depth and concentration.
