L'Aventure is a Paso Robles estate founded in 1998 by Stephan Asseo, a Frenchman who departed Bordeaux seeking fewer regulatory constraints and warmer growing conditions for his Rhône and Bordeaux varieties. The estate sits on calcareous soils in the Templeton Gap, where consistent coastal winds moderate temperatures and preserve natural acidity in otherwise warm-climate fruit. Asseo blends freely across varieties, producing Optimus — a Syrah-led blend with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot — along with an Estate Cuvée Red and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Optimus at $49 average from 113 lots is the most accessible and widely traded bottling. Estate Cuvée Red at $97 from 36 lots represents the top Bordeaux-oriented blend, with 2019 as the benchmark vintage. Reserve Cabernet averages $71 from 39 lots. Chardonnay at $109 from 29 lots is among the more serious white wine efforts in any Paso Robles estate. Estate Syrah at $67 from 16 lots and Inspiracion at $69 round out the Rhône program.
