Lokoya

Lokoya is Napa Valley's premier mountain Cabernet Sauvignon estate, established by Jess Jackson of Kendall-Jackson in 1995 to produce single-mountain-appellation Cabernets from four of Napa's most distinctive elevated sites: Diamond Mountain, Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, and Spring Mountain. Each bottling is labelled with its mountain AVA, providing a rare comparative study of Napa's volcanic-influenced elevated sites against a consistent winemaking approach. Christopher Carpenter, who joined the estate in 1997, has crafted wines that earn extraordinary critical acclaim: multiple vintages of all four mountain Cabernets score 97–100 points from Parker, with the Diamond Mountain and Mount Veeder particularly celebrated. The Mount Veeder Cabernet, from serpentine and volcanic soils at 1,200–2,000 feet, regularly earns 100 points. With 527 lots averaging $261 per bottle, Lokoya is firmly positioned in the ultra-premium Napa tier — competitive on price with Sloan and Tuck Beckstoffer while offering something those estates cannot: a direct mountain AVA-vs-mountain AVA comparison from the same producer across four bottlings. Production of each wine is small — typically 500–800 cases — ensuring genuine secondary market scarcity. The Jackson family's deep Napa vineyard holdings give Lokoya access to the finest mountain fruit available.

Lokoya produces four separate mountain-appellation Cabernets — Diamond Mountain, Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, and Spring Mountain — providing the only direct multi-mountain comparative study from a single producer in Napa.
Christopher Carpenter has crafted multiple 100-point Cabernets from both Diamond Mountain and Mount Veeder; the Mount Veeder bottling from serpentine soils is particularly celebrated for its volcanic mineral complexity.
Production of each mountain bottling is typically 500–800 cases, creating genuine scarcity across all four wines and sustained auction demand from collectors building comparative mountain Napa libraries.
527 lots average $261 per bottle, placing Lokoya in the ultra-premium Napa tier alongside Sloan and Screaming Eagle — exceptional for wines offering the additional intellectual appeal of mountain-vs-mountain comparison.

In the Glass

Four mountain Napa Cabernet Sauvignons, each distinct but sharing volcanic mineral character: Diamond Mountain shows cassis, graphite, and crushed rock on a powerful tannic frame; Mount Veeder adds serpentine mineral intensity with iron and dried herb; Howell Mountain delivers blackberry and dark chocolate with volcanic ash grip; Spring Mountain is the most elegant, with floral lift and cedar. All require 12–20 years and reward 30+ in top vintages.
