Luigi Baudana is a small Barolo estate in Serralunga d'Alba that passed into the hands of Azienda Agricola G.D. Vajra in 2009 following an agreement with the aging and childless Luigi Baudana himself. Vajra, a family winery based in Vergne above Barolo village, maintained the Baudana label as a distinct property with separate vinifications from the two key Serralunga MGAs: Baudana (a plot of roughly 2 hectares within the village's south-facing amphitheater) and Cerretta (on the Serralunga ridge above). However, the portfolio data reveals that the dominant offering is labeled simply as Piani — averaging $314 per bottle across 187 lots — which is a very different price point from the core Barolo holdings ($65 for Baudana MGA, $85 for Cerretta). The Piani bottling's $314 average with a top-vintage date of 2013 and 187 lots suggests this may represent either a premium selection or possibly a misattributed listing. The two named Barolo MGAs, Baudana and Cerretta, average $65 and $85 respectively across 34 and 33 lots each, with 2013 the most traded vintage for both. Total portfolio activity spans 287 lots averaging $232 — inflated by the Piani average. The estate's Serralunga terroir delivers the austere, age-demanding Nebbiolo style for which the commune is revered.
