Patrimony

Patrimony is a high-elevation Paso Robles project launched by DAOU Vineyards founders Georges and Daniel Daou, focused exclusively on Cabernet Franc and single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon blends from the Adelaida District. Established around 2016, Patrimony represents the pinnacle of the Daou brothers' ambition to produce world-class Cabernet-family wines from their estate on the western hills of Paso Robles, where limestone and chalk soils at elevations above 2,200 feet create conditions markedly different from the warmer valley floor. The Cabernet Franc—a rarity as a standalone bottling at this price level in California—accounts for 84 lots averaging $219, with the 2018 vintage most traded. Caves des Lions, the estate's flagship Cabernet Sauvignon blend, averages $209 across 46 lots with the 2019 vintage leading. Both wines are produced in very limited quantities—typically under 500 cases per release—and are sold primarily through the mailing list. Auction prices range tightly between $133 and $660, reflecting both the estate's young track record and the high minimum price point of all Patrimony wines. Across 176 lots at an average of $214, Patrimony has established itself as one of Paso Robles' most sought-after cellar-worthy estates within a short timeframe.

Patrimony's Cabernet Franc is one of California's few standalone Cabernet Franc bottlings priced above $200, averaging $219 per lot across 84 auction appearances.
Caves des Lions Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from limestone and chalk-rich soils at over 2,200 feet elevation in the Adelaida District—among California's highest-elevation Cabernet sites.
Production is capped at under 500 cases per wine, with allocation via mailing list only, driving auction demand from collectors unable to access direct-to-consumer channels.
Both flagship wines were introduced around 2016 and have achieved consistent auction prices from $133 to $660, with the 2018 and 2019 vintages generating the most secondary market activity.

In the Glass

Patrimony's wines reflect Paso Robles at its most refined and site-driven. The Cabernet Franc is structured and aromatic—cassis leaf, graphite, violet, and tobacco—with firm chalky tannins and a cool-climate freshness unusual for the region. Caves des Lions adds black cherry and cedar from Cabernet Sauvignon dominance. Both wines carry the mineral tension of limestone soils and age gracefully over 10–15 years.
