Roberto Voerzio

Roberto Voerzio is one of Barolo's most revered and controversial estates, founded in 1986 when Roberto Voerzio separated from the family farm in La Morra to pursue an extreme vision of quality through radical green harvesting, low yields, and concentration. Voerzio is among the most committed low-yield producers in the entire Langhe — reducing yields to as little as 1–1.5 kg per vine in some years — producing wines of extraordinary density and richness that polarise traditional Barolo lovers while earning near-perfect scores from Parker. The portfolio includes five single-vineyard Barolos: La Serra, Cerequio, Brunate, Sarmassa, and Pozzo dell'Annunziata — all from La Morra, a commune known for more aromatic, floral Nebbiolo than the iron-dominant Serralunga sites. Parker scored the 2000 Cerequio and La Serra 99 points; multiple vintages from 1996 through 2010 score 97–100. With 567 lots averaging $231 per bottle, Voerzio commands some of the highest Barolo prices at auction. Production is deliberately micro-scale — typically 1,500–2,500 bottles per single-vineyard wine — making allocation nearly impossible and auction the only realistic access point for most collectors. The estate's wines are aged in a combination of small French oak and larger barrels, with the La Morra floral character preserved even under the extreme concentration that defines the house style.

Parker scored the 2000 La Serra and Cerequio 99 points; the 2004 and 2010 single-vineyard Barolos also earn 97–99 — a sustained run of near-perfect scores spanning 20 vintages.
All five single-vineyard Barolos are from La Morra commune, known for the most aromatic, floral Nebbiolo in the Barolo DOCG — contrasting with the more austere, iron-dominant Serralunga or Barolo village styles.
567 lots average $231 per bottle, with top single-vineyard lots from 2000, 2004, and 2010 fetching $400–700 at auction — comparable to Giacomo Conterno Monfortino at a fraction of its production cost.

In the Glass

La Morra Nebbiolo at extreme concentration: Roberto Voerzio Barolo delivers intense dried rose, violets, black cherry, and spice on a dense, plush tannin structure that shows extraordinary richness for the variety. The La Morra floral DNA is preserved despite the concentration; tar and iron emerge with age. La Serra is the most feminine; Cerequio the most structured; Brunate the most perfumed. All require 12–20 years; top vintages last 35+ years.
