Siro Pacenti

Siro Pacenti is a small Montalcino estate founded by the eponymous Siro Pacenti in the 1970s and elevated to regional significance under his son Giancarlo, who took over in the late 1980s. The estate farms approximately 12 hectares in two distinct zones: a warmer sector near the village of Montalcino producing richly concentrated fruit, and a cooler section near Castelnuovo dell'Abate contributing greater aromatic lift. Giancarlo was an early champion of modern Brunello production — shorter macerations, aging in small French barriques rather than large Slavonian casks — and his wines helped define the modernist wing of the appellation during the 1990s and 2000s. The flagship PS Brunello di Montalcino (labeled under the producer's initials) averages $84 per bottle across 112 auction lots, with the 2006 vintage the most traded year. The PS Riserva, selected from the estate's oldest vines in exceptional years, averages $121 across 20 lots. Total portfolio activity spans 293 lots at an $89 average, with a ceiling of $339 — reflecting the estate's consistent but not trophy-priced positioning within Montalcino's auction hierarchy. The 2010 Brunello vintage, widely considered the greatest Montalcino harvest of the 21st century, is the estate's most acclaimed production and commands the highest per-bottle prices.

Giancarlo Pacenti pioneered modern Brunello production in Montalcino during the 1990s, aging in French barriques rather than large Slavonian casks — a stylistic choice that influenced a generation of producers and generated debate about Brunello's traditional identity.
The estate farms approximately 12 hectares split between a warmer sector near Montalcino village and a cooler zone near Castelnuovo dell'Abate; the two terroirs are blended to create the PS and PS Riserva cuvees.
The 2010 vintage is the most critically acclaimed in the estate's history, and the 2006 is the most traded year at auction across the PS label's 112 lots averaging $84 per bottle.
The PS Riserva, produced only in the best years from oldest vines, averages $121 per bottle at auction — a 44% premium over the standard PS — with 20 lots traded and price peaks reaching $339.

In the Glass

Siro Pacenti Brunello is distinctly modern in register: ripe dark cherry, black plum, and dried fig lead, with vanilla, spice, and mocha notes from barrique aging layered beneath. The Sangiovese structure is present but softer than traditional-style Brunello — tannins are rounder, the finish more velvety — with Montalcino's characteristic mineral iron undertone providing backbone. The style is approachable within 5–7 years of release and fully developed by 15.
