Staglin

Staglin Family Vineyard is a Rutherford estate established in 1985 when Shari and Garen Staglin purchased the historic Adamson Vineyard, a 50-acre property with vine origins dating to the 1880s. The estate is situated on the Rutherford Bench, one of Napa's most celebrated terroir zones, with deep alluvial soils that reliably produce Cabernet Sauvignon of benchmark concentration and the distinctive 'Rutherford Dust' mineral quality. The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon leads the 312-lot auction record at $148 average and has earned multiple 100-point scores from Robert Parker and James Suckling. The Booth Bella Oaks Cabernet, sourced from the adjacent historic vineyard previously associated with Heitz Wine Cellars, provides an alternative Rutherford expression. The Stagliano Sangiovese is a curiosity — a rare attempt at the Tuscan variety in Rutherford — while the Estate Chardonnay completes the range. The family's philanthropic work in mental health research through the One Mind institute is inseparable from the Staglin brand identity. With old-vine complexity from 1880s-era plantings still in the estate and a Rutherford Bench location that has anchored some of Napa's finest Cabernets, Staglin combines historical depth with contemporary critical acclaim.

Staglin Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has received multiple 100-point scores from Robert Parker and James Suckling, with 312 auction lots averaging $148 per bottle reflecting sustained collector demand.
The Rutherford Bench's deep alluvial soils produce the 'Rutherford Dust' minerality — a distinct savoury quality recognisable in top Cabernets from this narrow strip — making Staglin's site one of Napa's most reliably excellent.
The Booth Bella Oaks adjacent vineyard has historical significance: it was previously associated with Heitz Wine Cellars' Bella Oaks Cabernet, one of Napa's revered vineyard-designate wines of the 1970s–1990s.
Founded in 1985 from a property with vine origins in the 1880s, Staglin has maintained original block plantings that contribute old-vine complexity to the Estate Cabernet and anchor premiums over younger-vine Rutherford sources.

In the Glass

Staglin Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is quintessential Rutherford Bench: dense cassis and dark plum fruit with the characteristic mineral, almost dusty complexity that defines the sub-zone. The structure is powerful — firm, polished tannins and excellent acidity — but the tannins are ripe and well-integrated. New oak contributes cedar and spice that resolves within 8–10 years, revealing dark chocolate and iron mineral. Needs 10–15 years minimum; peak typically 15–25.
