Talenti

Talenti is a traditional Brunello di Montalcino producer based in Sant'Angelo in Colle on the southwestern slopes of the appellation, founded by Pierluigi Talenti in the 1960s. Pierluigi was one of the key figures in establishing the Brunello denomination and served as estate manager at Il Poggione for decades before launching his own label. The current estate is operated by his son Riccardo and granddaughter Lorenza. The estate farms approximately 18 hectares, producing Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, and the Pian di Conte Riserva. The southwestern position of the vineyards produces riper, fuller-bodied Brunello with more generous fruit and less austere tannins than producers from the hilltop town's northern exposure. Across 407 auction lots, the estate averages $92 per bottle with prices reaching $568. Critical scores for top vintages including 2010, 2012, and 2015 reach 94–96 from Wine Advocate. Pian di Conte Riserva in exceptional vintages represents the quality peak.

Founder Pierluigi Talenti served as estate manager at Il Poggione for decades and was instrumental in the foundational period of the Brunello di Montalcino denomination before creating his own label.
The estate's southwestern Montalcino position at Sant'Angelo in Colle produces riper, more accessible Brunello than northern producers — sharing terroir character with Casanova di Neri and Ciacci Piccolomini.
Pian di Conte Riserva, the estate's top wine, is produced from the oldest vine parcels and aged longer in Slavonian oak; the 2015 and 2010 vintages earned 95–96 points from Wine Advocate.
407 auction lots average $92 per bottle — strong value for a traditional, family-owned Brunello estate with a history stretching to the denomination's founding period.

In the Glass

Talenti Brunello is warm, generous Montalcino from the southwestern slopes: ripe red cherry, dried plum, tobacco, leather, and Mediterranean herbs with firm but polished tannins of mature Sangiovese Grosso. The style is more immediately approachable than northern Montalcino producers — accessible at 8–10 years. Rosso di Montalcino is excellent: concentrated, structured, and offering a preview of the Brunello at a fraction of the price.
