About Chateau Ausone
Ausone sits on steep terraces at the western edge of Saint-Émilion. It is named after the Roman poet Ausonius. The modern estate dates from the 18th century and Jean Cantenat. It later passed through the Lafargue family to Édouard Dubois, who added neighbouring Château Belair in 1916. After a decline, Pascal Delbeck became winemaker in 1976. A long dispute between the Dubois-Challon and Vauthier families ended in the mid-1990s, when the Vauthiers bought out the other share, and Alain Vauthier took charge. The vineyard of about seven hectares is half Cabernet Franc and half Merlot on limestone. Ausone left the classification in 2022.
