About Chateau Cheval Blanc

Cheval Blanc began in 1832, when Château Figeac sold 15 ha, including part of a gravel ridge that runs toward Pétrus, to M. Laussac-Fourcaud. Medals won at the London and Paris exhibitions of 1862 and 1867 still appear on its label. The founding family kept it until 1998, when Bernard Arnault and Albert Frère bought it and installed Pierre Lurton as manager; LVMH took Arnault's share in 2009. Sitting on the Pomerol border with clay, gravel and sand soils, it is unusual on the right bank for a blend led by Cabernet Franc with Merlot. It holds Premier Grand Cru Classé A rank and makes Le Petit Cheval.
