About Chateau Mouton Rothschild
Château Mouton Rothschild in Pauillac farms 84–90 ha of thin gravel over clay-limestone, planted about 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Cabernet always dominates the grand vin (93% in 2023), which ferments mostly in oak vats and spends about 20 months in new barrels. The 2023 shows blackberry and lead pencil over smooth, full-bodied tannins; the 2022 was praised for cassis and cigar box. Le Petit Mouton comes from selected younger vines in the same vineyard. Aile d'Argent, a white from sandy gravel, blends Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Sauvignon Gris and a little Muscadelle, half in new oak. Artists have illustrated the labels since 1945.
