About Louis Roederer
Louis Roederer began in Reims in 1776 as Dubois Père & Fils; Louis Roederer inherited it from his uncle in 1833, gave it his name and pushed into export markets, notably Russia, where Tsar Nicholas II named it supplier to the imperial court. The Russian Revolution and US Prohibition hurt it badly, but it recovered as a grande marque and is still owned by the founder's descendants, the Rouzaud family. Its prestige cuvée, Cristal, went on general sale in 1945. Its 240 ha across the Montagne de Reims, Marne Valley and Côte des Blancs supply about two thirds of its needs, with 75 ha farmed biodynamically.
