About M. Chapoutier
Maison M. Chapoutier is a grower and négociant in Tain-l'Hermitage, best known for its red and white Hermitage. The family's Rhône roots go back to 1808, but the business began in 1879, when Polydor Chapoutier bought his first vineyards. Max Chapoutier led it until 1977, when his sons Michel and Marc took over, and quality rose under Michel in the 1980s. All its vineyards are farmed biodynamically, and it favours single-variety wines: its Côte-Rôtie has no Viognier and its white Hermitage is pure Marsanne. The range peaks with the Fac&Spera wines. Since 1996 every label has carried Braille, a practice begun on the Monier de la Sizeranne Hermitage in 1994.
