About Salon

Eugène Aimé Salon founded Champagne Salon in the early 20th century. He believed Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger could make a fine Champagne without Pinot Noir or Meunier. He first made the wine for friends, and the first commercial vintage was 1921. After he died in 1943 his sister inherited the house, which Laurent-Perrier bought in 1989 and now runs alongside Delamotte. Salon makes one wine, a blanc de blancs from Grand Cru Le Mesnil. The fruit comes from around twenty growers' plots and the one-hectare Jardin de Salon. It is released only in exceptional years, after about a decade of ageing; undeclared years go to Delamotte.
