About Screaming Eagle

Screaming Eagle began when former real-estate agent Jean Phillips bought a 57-acre Oakville vineyard in 1986. She sold most of the mixed plantings' fruit to other Napa wineries but kept about an acre of Cabernet Sauvignon for herself, taking advice from consultant Richard Peterson, whose daughter Heidi Peterson Barrett became the first winemaker. The debut 1992 vintage, released in 1995 to a 99-point Parker score and tiny volumes, made it a cult wine. The vineyard was replanted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc in 1995. In 2006 Phillips sold to Stan Kroenke and Charles Banks; Banks left in 2009, leaving Kroenke as sole owner.
