Alex Moreau

Alex Moreau is a Chassagne-Montrachet-based domaine producing some of the finest and most auction-sought white Burgundy from the Côte de Beaune. The estate is the direct successor to the Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils, with Alex Moreau (Bernard's son) launching his own label — the portfolio represents Chassagne-Montrachet's finest terroir at the Premier Cru and Grand Cru levels. The crown jewels are parcels of Chevalier-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Crus, alongside Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru La Maltroie and a Meursault Premier Cru Porusot. At auction, Alex Moreau averages $608 per bottle across 121 lots — among the highest averages in the entire auction database for any white Burgundy producer — with prices ranging from $85 to $1,912. The Chevalier-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet command the highest prices, with the former reaching close to $2,000 for top vintages. The small production and Grand Cru quality drive extreme secondary market prices.

Alex Moreau holds parcels of both Chevalier-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Crus, two of the Côte de Beaune's four white Grand Crus, driving auction prices up to $1,912.
121 lots average $608 per bottle — the highest per-bottle average among any producer in the current batch, reflecting the Grand Cru concentration in the auction pool.
The Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru La Maltroie is the estate's most accessible cuvée, offering Premier Cru Chassagne from a recognized terroir below the Grand Cru price level.
The Meursault Premier Cru Porusot is an unusual holding for a Chassagne-based domaine, adding a classic Meursault expression to the predominantly Chassagne portfolio.

In the Glass

Alex Moreau's Chevalier-Montrachet is taut, mineral, and extraordinary: lemon cream, chalk, white flower, and a seam of stony minerality that defines the Grand Cru vineyard. Bâtard-Montrachet is richer and more textured. La Maltroie Premier Cru shows Chassagne's characteristic nuttiness and stone fruit. All wines are precise, driven by natural acidity, and built to age 15–30 years.
