Bedrock Wine Co.

Bedrock Wine Co. is a Sonoma-based producer founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson MW in 2007, focused almost entirely on old-vine Zinfandel, mixed heritage field blends, and Rhône varieties from California's most historic vineyards. Twain-Peterson, son of Ravenswood founder Joel Peterson, is a leading authority on California's pre-Prohibition wine heritage and has been instrumental in documenting and preserving old-vine parcels across Sonoma, Napa, and the Sierra Foothills. The flagship Bedrock Vineyard Heritage, sourced from the estate's own 1888-planted mixed black field blend in Sonoma Valley, is the crown jewel of the portfolio — a wine of extraordinary complexity and historical significance. The Pagani Ranch Heritage, from another pre-Prohibition Zinfandel and field blend site in Sonoma Valley, is equally prized. Across 492 auction lots, Bedrock averages just $38 per bottle, with a ceiling of $492 — representing extraordinary value for the quality and historical significance delivered. Critical scores typically range from 92–96 for the flagship bottlings.

Morgan Twain-Peterson MW has documented over 400 old-vine vineyard sites across California and holds advanced viticulture training, making Bedrock a scholarly as well as practical champion of pre-Prohibition vines.
Bedrock Vineyard was planted in 1888 and contains a field blend of Zinfandel, Mourvèdre, Alicante Bouschet, and over a dozen other varieties; it is one of the most historically significant vineyards in California.
492 auction lots average just $38 per bottle — among the lowest average prices for any critically acclaimed producer on this platform, offering exceptional value relative to quality.
Pagani Ranch Heritage, sourced from another pre-Prohibition Sonoma Valley field blend, earned 96 points from Wine Advocate and is considered one of California's finest old-vine Zinfandel-based wines.

In the Glass

Bedrock Heritage blends from old-vine California sites are complex, layered, and restrained for their variety: dried blackberry, brambly raspberry, black pepper, dried herbs, and iron minerality from aged vines. Zinfandel provides the backbone but co-fermented minority varieties — Mourvèdre, Petite Sirah, Alicante — add depth and savory complexity. Alcohol is carefully managed, typically 14–14.5%, giving the wines structure and food-friendliness rare in the category.
